Richy Fortune is a lifelong resident of the United States with deep roots in Haiti and a long record of service to both nations. He brings the energy, experience, and commitment needed to guide Haiti through the opportunities and challenges of a new decade.
Born in Anse‑d’Hainault, Haiti, Fortune began his education at St. Joseph High School and St. Patrick College in Port‑au‑Prince. At age sixteen, he moved to the United States, where he continued his studies at Palm Bay High School in Melbourne, Florida, before transferring to Thomas Jefferson High School in Tampa, where he graduated. Throughout his youth, he remained closely connected to Haiti, traveling frequently to support his community.

During his school years, Fortune was active in sports and community life. He played soccer for Thomas Jefferson High School, participated on the basketball team at Bethanie Seventh‑day Adventist Church, and was a member of the French Club—experiences that strengthened his teamwork and leadership skills.

Fortune pursued higher education at several respected institutions, including the American Institute of Banking (AIB), Hillsborough Community College, Philander Smith College in Arkansas, Suffield University, and Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Florida. His professional journey includes service in multiple hospitals and medical centers, such as Carilion Hospital, Lewis‑Gale Hospital, Manatee Community Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Naples Community Hospital, and Florida Digestive Health.
To better understand public policy and community advocacy, Fortune became involved with the Virginia Organizing Project (VOP), representing the interests of local residents. He later founded ROICH—the Roanoke Valley Organization for the Improvement of Haitian and African Communities—where he developed strategic plans and delivered a wide range of social services to immigrant families.
Fortune also trained and served as a lobbyist with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), advocating for the protection of civil rights. His commitment to civic engagement led him to join the City of Roanoke’s Mayor’s Multicultural Committee, where he worked to elevate the concerns of diverse communities. As Chief Executive Officer of the Inner City Youth Association, he helped provide services to more than 500 children and collaborated with city councils across the country to advance opportunities for Haitian communities.

A certified community organizer, Fortune has participated in and led medical missions throughout Haiti for more than a decade, serving regions such as Catie Morin, Terrier Rouge, Haiti General Hospital, and Hôpital Immaculée Conception in Port‑de‑Paix. After completing his studies at Suffield University, he underwent HIV/AIDS 501 training with the Florida Department of Health to better serve Haitian immigrants in the United States.

Fortune’s medical and humanitarian work continued in Central Florida, where he established a nonprofit organization and created two food banks that served more than 10,000 families during the COVID‑19 pandemic.

For the past ten years, he has been a strong advocate for the Haitian community, working on immigration reform and tenant worker issues. He is also the founder of the Haitian Political Action Committee, created to support leaders who prioritize the interests of the Haitian people.
Fortune is the son of Luckner Fortune and Julianie Pierre, who reside in Tampa, Florida, and Port‑au‑Prince, Haiti. He comes from a large family of seven brothers and five sisters, with several siblings living in the United States.
